Targeted Training and Apprenticeship Fund

01 July 2020.

Apprenticeships and some vocational courses are now fully funded by the Government's Targeted Training and Apprenticeship Fund (TTAF) from 1 July 2020, until 31 December 2022.

This is being administered through the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC).

Which courses are funded

Our contact centres are already answering calls from students, who are keen to know whether they qualify for the TTAF. We're advising students to contact their education provider or TEC for more details about this fund.

Funding is focused on courses that respond to the impacts of COVID-19 and are in demand by employers.

Please note: Students studying a SAC funded qualification can still get a Student Loan for non-tuition components (eg. course-related and living costs), and/or Student Allowance (provided they meet all other eligibility and entitlement criteria).

Students who've already paid their fees

If a student's course is covered by the new funding, and they've already paid their fees, they can get a refund of their fees. Students are being asked to contact their education providers if they have any queries about their fee refunds.

Education providers will need to refund the course fee amount to StudyLink, if the student paid by Student Loan. This will then be transferred to Inland Revenue, who will deduct the amount from the student's Student Loan balance.
